Not only is today my birthday but also I am blessed to be today’s ASC blogger which probably means I’m doing this in between lesson plans. I will let you decide whether that’s true for me or not. It’s almost the end of my first week and it has been amazing. I can feel my limbs being stretched out in the different commitments. By the end of each day this week, I can feel how weak my eyes are but yet I am restless. The fire has been lit.
I was looking for something or even someone to set the context for this blog. I need look no further than today’s Gospel. The last line of Matthew 22: 1-14 says, “For many are invited but not all are chosen”. What a profound line. Although all are welcome to being an ASC volunteer not all are chosen. Being chosen allows me to stand firm in my belief that ASC is my vocation.
The realization of being Christ for our Rockhurst High School students sounds daunting and there are times throughout this week where I have thought “How am I doing this”? Then there are the moments when I find my inspiration in God and others. I have been fortunate enough to have a supportive ASC family at Rockhurst. The faculty treats me no different than they treat any of other colleagues. The students have been cooperative and kind-hearted. This path feels right and that to me is a part of vocation.
Whether it’s Google, one of my ASC brothers, or teaching, I am finding God.
